What is erasebackground.org?
A free online tool that removes image backgrounds. Drop in a photo, the background disappears automatically, and you download a clean transparent PNG.
Is it really free?
Yes. There’s no sign-up, no credits and no watermark, and full-resolution downloads and the bulk remover are free too.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in your web browser. The first time you use it, the browser downloads the AI model (about 100 MB) and keeps it for next time.
Which browsers and devices work?
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. It’s fastest on a computer with a graphics card. Phones and older computers work too, but large photos can be slow or run out of memory.
Using the Tool
What image formats are supported?
You can use JPG, PNG and WebP images, and download as PNG, WebP or JPG. PNG and WebP keep the background transparent; JPG uses white or the colour you choose.
Can I replace the background with a colour?
Yes. After removal, pick white, black, purple or any custom colour before downloading.
Is the download full resolution?
Yes. The result is exported at the same size as your original image.
How good are the edges around hair and fur?
The AI is designed to keep fine details around hair, fur and complex shapes. Results depend on the photo, and very busy or low-contrast backgrounds can be harder.
Can I paste an image instead of uploading?
Yes. Copy an image and press Ctrl+V (or ⌘V on a Mac) anywhere on the page.
Bulk Remover
How many images can I process at once?
There’s no fixed limit. The bulk remover processes images one after another on your device, so big batches simply take longer.
Can I drop a whole folder?
Yes. Drag a folder onto the bulk remover or use “Add a folder”, then download everything as one ZIP.
Privacy
Do you upload my photos?
No. Background removal happens in your browser, and your images are never sent to our servers or stored. See our privacy policy for details.
Can I use the images commercially?
Yes. We place no restrictions on the images you download. You just need the rights to the original photo.
