erasebackground.org removes image backgrounds inside your web browser. Your images are processed on your own device and are never uploaded to our servers. We don’t require an account, and we only collect the small amount of information needed to run this website.
This policy explains how erasebackground.org (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use erasebackground.org and its tools (together, the “Service”).
2. Your Images
- Processed on your device. Background removal runs in your browser. The images you open, and the results you download, are not sent to us.
- Not stored. We don’t keep copies of your images. They exist only in your browser tab and are cleared when you close it.
- Downloads stay with you. Files you download, including bulk ZIP files, are created on your device.
3. The AI Model
To remove backgrounds, your browser downloads an open-source AI model (BiRefNet, MIT license) from a third-party model host, currently Hugging Face. This download contains no information about your images. The host may receive standard request information such as your IP address, as with any file download. Your browser then caches the model so it doesn’t need to be downloaded again.
4. Information We Collect
- Messages you send us, such as emails to our support address, including anything you choose to attach.
- Basic website data such as pages visited, browser type and approximate location derived from your IP address, used to keep the site running and understand how it’s used.
We don’t ask for your name, email or payment details to use the Service.
5. How We Use Information
- Run, secure and improve the website.
- Respond to your messages.
- Prevent abuse and comply with legal obligations.
7. Data Retention
Messages are kept as long as needed to help you. Basic website logs are kept for a limited period. Because your images never reach us, there are none to retain.

The site is served over an encrypted connection, and processing your images on your own device means they are never exposed in transit to us. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
